Our Church History

January 30 1957, Rev. K.M. Merkerson met with Bro. & Sis. Ike Laury at their home, 113 South 13th, along with Bro. Arthur Williams, Mother Rice, Sis. Nickleberry, Bro. Harvey Morrison and Bro. George Williams.

Rev. Merkerson was appointed as pastor and he selected the name "Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church," located at 800 North 16th.

In 1969, another building was purchased at 903 N. 24th

After fourteen years, Pastor Merkerson envisioned a new building and the church was blessed to purchase land across the street where a new facility was built; the third home of Prince of Peace, 825 North 24th.  Under the leadership of Pastor Merkerson, the church flourished spiritually, numerically, and financially. Through the blessing of God, the mortgage was burned in 1992.

On Wednesday, September 15, 1993, Pastor Merkerson went home to be with the Lord.

After much prayer, a meeting was held on Sunday, December 26, 1993 and Rev. Robert B. Corley, Jr., Associate Minister of Truevine Baptist Church was elected as the new Pastor.  He preached his first sermon as pastor on Sunday, February 6, 1994, and was installed on Sunday, March 20, 1994.

Pastor Corley's theme for 1995-96 was, Joshua 1:5 and he began to review the ministries/auxiliaries, develop new ones, and restore annual days..

In the fall of 2005, we broke ground for a new edifice and on July 8, 2007, the Prince of Peace congregation marched into our new sanctuary for our first worship service.

Mother Willie Mae Merkerson, the wife of Pastor Merkerson was a faithful and dedicated member of Prince of Peace.  She was actively involved in many capacities, including; musician, mission president, and instructor, as well as, President of the Saginaw Valley Baptist District and Wolverine State Convention, Woman's Auxiliaries.  The Lord called her home on January 5, 2008.

Our Phase II building project plans are to build a multipurpose center with classrooms, computer lab, and kitchen to meet the needs of our church family and community.

Our Mission

To preach and teach the salvation of Christ to those who are lost sinners through the witnessing of the Gospel and to renew those who show a lack of concern for his/her Lord and Savior in their everyday Christian walk; while continuing to  encourage those whose main goal is to live for Christ.
